Day 1 - Traveling

We rolled out of the parkinglot this morning at about 9:25am. It was great to be sent off by the church staff. After a prayer from Pastor, we loaded up and moved out. It was a long drive through the empty, pale yellow desert lands; only the co-pilot and (thankfully) the driver were able to stay awake through the dried up backlands of Colorado, all the way until we hit Raton, NM.

Surprisingly, we made it to Raton in good time - only two and a half hours. There was little traffic, no stops and no issues. We had stopped at Raton so many times in various church trips, we all instincly knew where we were going to eat once we split up for lunch. After lunch, and after we filled the tanks, it was time for the second leg of the day; Raton to Amarillo.

When we reached Dalhart, we were sadly surprised by the large amount of construction. The disappointment didn't come from the amount of time we would lose, or the uncertainty of knowing which way the road would turn; our dismay came when we found the proposed detour went around Braums :) No icecream!

After a scary maze of semi-trucks and orange cones, we were back on the road again. This leg seemed to pass quicker than the first. The cars had bonded through the first and at least two of the vehicles found entertainment in the on-board movies.

We reached Amarillo at about 6pm. After a quick check-in, we got only a few minutes to chill before setting out to dinner. Rudy's had become a favorite of the mimes - a delicious Texas-Style barbeque restaraunt. (I know there's a couple in the Springs, but really, no comparison)

Finally! Texas is ridden with Braums and the team were super excited to find one nearby after dinner. After we all satisfied our sweet tooths, we headed back to the hotel to chill and hang out before the final leg and the performance tomorrow.
